Many of us of a certain age credit Jacques Cousteau with the inspiration that got us excited about marine life and started, or at least helped, us down the path to a life dedicated to the oceans. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Cousteau almost single-handedly created a human constituency for the oceans.
Last June he would have been 100 years old. And now his granddaughter Celine (right, at the age of 9 on the Amazon back in the day) has organized a celebration in New York to advance his legacy — which, of course, involves raising money. And cocktails. Man, I wish I could be there! In her own words:
“Although the event is a tribute to my grandfather and his mission, it is not just about him, but about the power one person has to influence many. I want people to walk away feeling empowered to use their talents to be proactive ocean advocates. I want people to know that they can have an impact every day from the food they eat, to where they choose to spend their vacations, to supporting non-profit organizations, to volunteering their time.”
The power of one. Pass it on. Read the rest of the interview here.
