It’s a shame Sherlock Holmes never learned to Scuba dive because he could have put his sleuthing skills towards bringing in coral reef villains.

Pioneers in the field of underwater forensic investigation are the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) and the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) who are working together on the Coral Reef CSI project.

Through a series of regional workshops, the idea is to train people to gather reliable evidence – that would stand up in court – from ship groundings, destructive fishing, illegal fishing, and other bad habits that are damaging coral reefs.

Check out a full version of the Coral Reef CSI video, by filmmaker Jon Slayer. And have a listen to Rick Macpherson chatting about the project with David E. Guggenheim on Ocean Doctor.
