How did sushi become a global cuisine?
That’s the question filmmaker Mark Hall is tackling in this new feature-length documentary Sushi: The Global Catch, which premiers next week at the Seattle International Film Festival.
From the looks of the trailer, this is going to be an awesome film. Asides from the sadly familiar scenes of frozen bluefins lined up at the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo, we get to see inside Australian tuna ranches, find out how the sushi craze has spread to some surprising places outside Japan, and hear from top tuna scientists including Barbara Block.
The most chilling quote in the trailer goes like this: ‘One thing I’m sure of, we will run out of tuna sooner than we run out of oil’
I hope this movie goes on to have as much impact – or more even – as The End of the Line.
